The definition of my grandmother's garden I think could be peace of mind put on one lot, and that's where I spent a sunny afternoon today. I have to confess I have an undying love for gardens but no chance of tending one of my own and there's no change to that ahead in the near future. Maybe that's why now, a month before I'm moving away from here, I decided to start an epic tournament against the birds in the garden - those greedy bastards eat all our berries! I think I can't even take the frozen berries with me to my new home, but hiding in the bush of red currants for hours and hours has other good sides to it too. When you got dirty feet, scratches everywhere and currant red fingers, it is just okay to let your mind wander to what wouldn't be a safe topic in any other case. Topics like how are you going to learn a whole new way of living, or loneliness, or lost friends, evil mornings on early spring. That bush of currants is older than me, and feeling all fine and dandy, growing away, not giving a shit - a way to go worth learning. And I'm sure that garden scents and currant bushes are the best medicine for fear and sorrow, strong recommendation!
Out of curiosity we also just had to pull up the first potatoes from the garden this summer, to see how they were doing. Well they were doing absolutely splendid and tasted delicious! To accompany the potatoes for dinner we also picked some dill and lettuce, as a dessert fresh strawberries. That was certainly food so fresh that you could still taste it growing strong.
And these lovely tennis shorts were mine to dirt in the bushes. Originally they belonged to my grandmother, who bought them for a family holiday in Sweden and Denmark. They are sadly a bit too big for me but otherwise in really good nick, I'm falling in love, shorts-love, big time.
Puutarhan kauneimmat tänään olivat vaaleanpunainen malva ja aurinkoinen helokki.
Beauty queens of the garden today were pink mallow and bright, happy sundrop.
